Background
Flint Club began as a conversation among four Flint natives around a table in Washington, DC on the eve of the new millennium. The idea was to create a movement that inspired pride in the city with the purpose of revitalizing the “Vehicle City” through a virtual community-based network.
The website, www.flintclub.org, was launched in April 2001. Flint Club released its first newsletter, "Flint Diaspora," in December 2001. The nonprofit is incorporated in the District of Columbia and received 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status from the IRS in August 2002.
Flint Club now has nearly 1000 members in its unique network across the country and around the world - including representatives in major cities such as Chicago, Atlanta, New York City, San Francisco, and Washington DC.
The organization has received financial support from the Ruth Mott Foundation, Charles Stewart Mott Foundation, The Community Foundation of Greater Flint, in addition to contributions from members and supporters.
