Who We Are

Mission
Flint Club fosters professional, civic, and social opportunities for emerging leaders and intellectuals who have a vested interest in Flint.

Vision
Flint Club will be the premiere community source for emerging leaders, artisans, intellectuals, entrepreneurs, and problem solvers. The impact derived from these individuals will result in new streams of philanthropic dollars, creative solutions to community problems, and will lead to a revived Flint boasting a thriving, diverse economy and rich cultural and social scenes.

Core Values

  • Pride in Flint’s past and hope for its future
  • Talent should be nurtured and provided an environment to thrive
  • Education and innovation are essential
  • Intellectual capital is a coveted resource
  • Our community is global and not limited by geography
  • A synergistic approach to uniting communities

Background
Flint Club began as a conversation among four Flint natives around a table in Washington, DC on the eve of the new millennium. The idea was to create a movement that inspired pride in the city with the purpose of revitalizing the “Vehicle City” through a virtual community-based network.

The website, www.flintclub.org, was launched in April 2001. Flint Club released its first newsletter, "Flint Diaspora," in December 2001. The nonprofit is incorporated in the District of Columbia and received 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status from the IRS in August 2002.

Flint Club now has nearly 1000 members in its unique network across the country and around the world - including representatives in major cities such as Chicago, Atlanta, New York City, San Francisco, and Washington DC.

The organization has received financial support from the Ruth Mott Foundation, Charles Stewart Mott Foundation, The Community Foundation of Greater Flint, in addition to contributions from members and supporters.

Partnerships

Flint Area Public Affairs Debates Committee
The Flint Area Public Affairs Debates program was begun in 1986 as a non-partisan public service devoted to helping the public gain a better understanding of important social and political issues. It is sponsored by the following: Baker College, Flint Community Schools, The Flint Journal, Flint Club, Genesee Intermediate School District, Kettering University, Mott Community College, and University of Michigan - Flint. Besides financial support, these eight institutions also provide representatives to the planning committee. These volunteers work together to plan and host 4 programs/debates each year that deal with critical public issues. These events are open to the public and are free of charge.

Great Lakes Urban Exchange (GLUE) www.gluespace.org
Flint Club participates in the Great Lakes Urban Exchange (GLUE) annual conference.  This conference brings together emerging professionals from older industrial cities around the Midwest to engage in stimulating dialogue around strategies to revitalize our hometowns.
